About Dragonfly Counselling and Support Centre (DCSC): Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre (DCSC) is a charity organization committed to creating a region free from sexual violence. We do this by providing specialized intervention, counselling and preventative education to individuals, families, and communities in Northeast/Central Alberta (Bonnyville, Cold Lake, St. Paul, Lac la Biche, Athabasca & Slave Lake).   

Job Summary: As a Board Member at DCSC, you will play a vital role in supporting our mission to provide comprehensive services and support to survivors of sexual violence. This volunteer position is designed to leverage your expertise, skills, and passion to contribute actively to the growth and success of the organization. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Advocacy and Outreach: Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting awareness of sexual assault issues and advocating for survivors’ rights within the community. 
  • Fundraising and Resource Development: Assist in fundraising efforts by leveraging your network, identifying potential donors or sponsors, and participating in fundraising events or campaigns. 
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to provide input on the organization’s strategic direction, ensuring alignment with the mission and vision. 
  • Program Support: Offer expertise and insights to improve and expand the organization’s programs and services for survivors of sexual assault. 
  • Partnerships and Networking: Build relationships with community organizations, businesses, and individuals to foster partnerships and collaborations that benefit the organization and the survivors it serves. 
  • Education and Training: Share your knowledge and skills by participating in or facilitating training sessions and workshops related to sexual assault awareness and prevention. 
  • Advisory Role: Provide guidance and advice to the Board of Directors and Executive Director on matters related to your area of expertise. 

Qualifications: 

  • Passionate commitment to the mission and values of DCSC 
  • Demonstrated expertise in a relevant field (e.g., psychology, counseling, legal, fundraising, communications, etc.). 
  • Excellent communication and networking skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people. 
  • Availability to attend board meetings, committee meetings, and organizational events as needed. 
  • Understanding and respect for the confidential and sensitive nature of the work. 

Time Commitment: The time commitment for this role will vary but is estimated at 2-5 hours per month depending on the member role. This includes attendance at board and committee meetings, participation in events and fundraisers, and time spent on specific tasks related to your role.
