Home 9 About Us

The dragonfly symbolizes transformation, change and strength in many cultures around the world.

Dragonfly Centre or Dragonfly Counselling and Support Centre (DCSC) has been the primary sexual violence service provider in the North East region of Alberta since 2014.

We are a charitable organization incorporated under the Alberta Societies Act, and under the direction of a community-based Board of Directors. We are a proud member of the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Service (www.aasas.ca).

Our team provides specialized and individualized services to address the needs of people impacted directly or indirectly by sexual violence. We offer a continuum of support services including crisis intervention, counselling, and police/court/medical support. All counselling and support services are free of charge and available to survivors (historical or recent) and support persons; individuals and families (3+ years of age).

Additionally, we provide sexual violence-related education for the general public and education and training for professionals prone to disclosures.
We operate with an outreach model, with one main office in Bonnyville and four (4) satellite offices throughout the region in Athabasca, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche and St. Paul. Our Dragonfly Centre expansion and engagement team is currently developing services in Smoky Lake, Slave Lake and Wabasca-Desmarais. We serve surrounding Indigenous communities located in Treaty 6, 8 and Métis Nation Zones I, II and V.

We understand some clients experience barriers to access services, especially in our rural and remote communities which is why our counselling and support teams have worked hard to break some of these barriers. Whether it’s to virtually meet with clients or meet with them by appointment at a location that is local to them. We encourage those with transportation barriers to contact us to discuss service delivery options.

Our Vision

Creating a region free from sexual violence and where all individuals are supported in their healing journey.

Our Mission

We are committed to ending the cycle of sexual abuse and assault by providing specialized intervention, counselling and preventative education to individuals, families and communities in North Central East Alberta.
