It takes an incredible team of individuals to do the work we do.
Meet Jamie, one of Dragonfly Centre’s Educators. She shares with us what she enjoys most about her role, and much more!
What inspired me to work at the Dragonfly Centre?
I’ve always had a passion for helping others, especially kids and youth. This role allows me to support them through education I deeply believe in, with the goal of preventing harm before it happens.
What’s the most important thing I’ve learned as an educator?
The power of language. I’ve learned that even small shifts in how we speak and the words we choose can have a huge impact on someone’s healing journey.
What do I enjoy most about working at the Dragonfly Centre?
The atmosphere. Every team member is genuinely caring and supportive. The education team I’m part of makes me feel heard, valued, and has created the most positive work environment I’ve ever experienced.
What surprises me most about my role?
How little awareness there is, both in our community and beyond, about sexual violence and its impacts. When I first started, I realized just how much I didn’t know. That gap in knowledge highlights how essential our work and education truly are.
A surprising or fun fact about me:
I’ve been skydiving and bungee jumping! Skydiving was definitely more worth the money, but both were unforgettable experiences.
My proudest moment:
I’ve really enjoyed learning every part of this role, especially because there’s always something new. But my proudest moment was creating my first webinar on how to talk to your children about counselling. It was the first project I completed independently, and I’m proud of how meaningful and useful it’s been for the community.
